Sharpsburg DWI checkpoint nets more than 60 citations

Sharpsburg, N.C. — Sharpsburg police issued more than 60 charges during a sobriety checkpoint Friday night.
Police said that they charged five motorists with driving while impaired and six others with drug offenses. Officers also issued more than 50 citations for misdemeanor driving offenses.
The checkpoint began at 9 p.m. and was scheduled to last until 2 a.m., but officers called it off at midnight due to rain.
Law enforcement agencies from Rocky Mount, Spring Hope and Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson counties assisted.
