Sex offender arrested near Southern Pines playground

A registered sex offender was arrested in Southern Pines on Friday after authorities said he was near a children’s playground.

Southern Pines police said patrol officers were investigating suspicious activity at Downtown Park, at 135 S.E. Broad St. They ran a check through the Division of Motor Vehicles and discovered the man, identified as Reggie Demond Revels, 29, of Aberdeen, was a registered sex offender and prohibited from being near a playground.

Revels was charged with one count of sex offender unlawfully on premises. He was held in the Moore County jail on $5,000 bond.
