RALEIGH, N.C. — A sex offender was arrested for failing to register when he moved to Wake County, U.S. Marshals said on Thursday.

Darrell Sheppard, 29, was convicted in December 2000 in Pitt County on two counts of indecent liberty with a child. He received a suspended sentence of probation but later served 1 year and 8 months for probation violations.

Sheppard moved from Greenville to Cary in May but failed to inform authorities when he subsequently moved into Wake County in April, according to the state Sex Offender Registry.

Agents from the U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Sheppard without incident at a relative's home in Robersonville on Dec. 13.

Sheppard remained in the Wake County jail under a $75,000 secured bond. His next court appearance was scheduled for Jan. 3, 2008.
