SHARPSBURG, N.C. — A judge dropped charges Monday against a Nash County teacher's assistant accused of taking indecent liberties with a 14-year-old.

Hattley Deans, 38, worked as a teacher's assistant at Southern Nash Middle School. He was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape.

Investigators said the incident happened in 2005 at Deans' home in Sharpsburg, where he often tutored students.

Deans said the teen who accused him made up the story.
