Cooler days on way after weekend of record heat
Central North Carolina will see some relief after an unseasonably warm weekend. Fayetteville saw a record fall when the temperature reach 88 degrees Sunday. The previous record for March 29, set in 2012, was 87.

A cold front will see temperatures about 10 degrees cooler across the board after it passes overnight. Monday will be the warmest day of the coming week, and the chance for rain returns on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch.
Sunday only got into the mid-80s in Raleigh, warm for late March but short of the 88-degree record for Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Temperatures will dip to about 60 degrees to start Monday, and will warm into the 70s under partly cloudy skies, Maloch said.
A chance for rain returns Tuesday, which will be cooler still with a high in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
"It is quite possible many locations could remain in the 50s all day" by Wednesday, Maloch said. That will be the coolest day of the week before the 60s and 70s return for Thursday, Friday and the weekend.
