Overnight, lows will remain in the upper 50s and lower 60s, according to WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell.

Monday will be very warm, with a high around 78 degrees, and a chance for severe storms will move in late in the day.

"We're tracking the chance for strong to severe storms Monday afternoon and evening," Campbell said, indicating that the entire viewing area will be under a risk for severe weather late Monday. "Large hail and strong winds will be possible."

While the Monday morning commute will be dry, a 50 percent chance for rain will move in by lunchtime and last for most of the day.

Much warmer weather, severe storms to move in Monday

"We will closely have to monitor this forecast, but the main threat is damaging wind gusts and hail," Campbell said.

The rain will stick around part of Tuesday, when more thunderstorms are possible, but Wednesday is expected to be mostly clear.

The middle of the week could feel like summer, with highs in the mid to upper 70s and sunshine for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Rain could return for next weekend, but temperatures will stay warm.
