Security guard killed, 2 injured at Burlington sweepstakes venue

Burlington, N.C. — A security guard was killed and two others were seriously injured Sunday following a robbery at a sweepstakes venue.
According to officers with the Burlington Police Department, officials responded to Gone Fishing Sweepstakes, located at 1365 N. Church Street, around 9:15 p.m. in response to a robbery and a shooting.
When they arrived, they found three victims. An employee of the venue and a patron were suffering from head wounds after being hit multiple times, security officer was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso.
The security guard was transported to the Alamance Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The injured patron and employee were treated and released from the hospital with bruising and swelling to the head.
Officials say the guard was "bludgeoned and shot in the back" after his own weapon, provided to him for store security purposes, was stolen from him.
Police are searching for three suspects who fled on foot behind the business toward S. Beaumont Avenue. The suspects are described as:
- A black male between 5'10" and 6'1" wearing a black face covering and dark clothes
- A black male between 5'10" and 6'1" wearing a red bandana face covering and dark clothes
- A black male between 5'10" and 6'1" wearing a hooded sweatshirt pulled tight over his face
A witness gave a description of a dark colored car as the suspect vehicle.
The Burlington Police Department said they were following up on some leads; however, the suspects have not been identified.
