The road is expected to be closed for several hours, officials announced before 1 p.m.

A representative from Dominion Energy told WRAL News a third-party excavator struck the line and that Dominion Energy crews were working to secure it.

As a detour, drivers traveling through the area should use Lake Pine Drive and Helmsdale Drive.
