Second suspect charged in Chapel Hill shooting death

A Carrboro man has been arrested in a fatal shooting last month in Chapel Hill, police said.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Carrboro man has been arrested in a fatal shooting last month in Chapel Hill, police said.

Donavyn Lee Mayfield, 20, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the Feb. 19 death of Dearie William Bourne.

Bourne, 21, of Chapel Hill, was shot near Camelot Village Apartments and died at UNC Hospitals.

Jermaine Malik Jahquan Chance, 21, was arrested the following day on charges of first-degree murder, breaking and entering, larceny and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Mayfield also was charged with kidnapping, breaking and entering and larceny in the case.

Both men were being held without bond Thursday in the Orange County jail.

Police haven't disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
