Second person charged in Fayetteville homicide

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal weekend shooting, according to Fayetteville police.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An 18-year-old man is now the second person charged in connection with a fatal weekend shooting, according to Fayetteville police.

Amonte E. McDougald, of the 7500 block of Decatur Drive, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of Ross Curry III, 25.

Authorities said McDougald surrendered to police and was being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Montez Lofton, 19, of the 1300 block of Yellow Ribbon Drive, was previously charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder in connection with the case.

Curry was found with a gunshot wound early Sunday morning in the 1600 block of Clairborne Drive. He was taken to the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment, but later died.

Lofton is being held under a $500,000 secured bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
