Second man charged in Raleigh slaying

Police arrested a Raleigh man early Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police arrested a Raleigh man early Thursday in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday.

Quintin Jerrell Smith, 23, was apprehended in Fayetteville at about 2:30 a.m. by the Raleigh Police Department's Fugitive Unit and was charged with murder.

Darrice Jamar Covington, 24, was shot to death early Tuesday at 1507 Cross St.

Police arrested Brandon Danyell Reid, 34, on Tuesday and charged him with murder in the case.

No details of a possible motive for the shooting have been released.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP.

Reid was convicted in 1994 of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and served five years in prison, according to state Department of Correction records. Since then, he has been convicted of dealing drugs, credit card fraud and receiving a stolen vehicle.
