ROXBORO, N.C. — The body of a second person killed in a boating accident on Hyco Lake last week was located Sunday afternoon, according to the Person County Sheriff’s Office.

The Person County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night received a report of an empty boat in the McGhee’s Mill area of the lake, near the Person-Caswell county line, and recovered a woman’s body that had been found by a fisherman.

The woman was identified Sunday as Jill Caldwell, of Yanceyville.

Crews continued to search the area for a man who had been in the boat with Caldwell and located the body of Thomas Smith, of Mebane, at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities previously said Smith and Caldwell were a couple who had been together for about a month at the time of the accident.

Authorities have not determined what caused the couple to end up in the water, but said the boat sustained motor damage.

The accident remains under investigation, according to the Person County Sheriff’s Office.
