WAKE FOREST, N.C. — The Wake Forest Police Department expanded its search for a missing man on Thursday.

Luis Vargas Montes, 34, was last seen Aug. 15 cashing a check at a Wake Forest bank, officers said. Montes’ family reported him missing the next day.

Dozens of investigators and searchers are concentrating their search in the Falls Lake area along Six Forks Road where Montes’ vehicle was found Monday, city spokesman Bill Crabtree said in a press release. Investigators are unsure if Montes left the vehicle or is the victim of foul play.

"At this point, we don't have anything concrete to suspect foul play; we don't have anything to rule it out either," Wake Forest Police Sgt. J.R. Morris said Wednesday.

Montes is described as a Hispanic male with a medium complexion, about 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes.

Montes' family said he would not disappear on his own. He is the father of a 2-year-old boy.

Anyone with information regarding Montes’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Wake Forest Police Department at 919-556-9111. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
