Fayetteville, N.C. — A Gray's Creek High School janitor has been charged with inappropriately touching a student, authorities said Thursday.
Dennis Simmons, 49, of 4447 Wellington Drive in Fayetteville, gave the 15-year-old student a ride home after a basketball game last Saturday, and the girl told authorities he fondled her and asked her to engage in a sexual act with him.
Simmons is charged with kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was being held Thursday in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
Cumberland County Schools spokeswoman Wanda McPhaul said Simmons has been suspended with pay, pending the results of an investigation by the Gray's Creek High principal.
