RALEIGH, N.C. — The driver who was operating the school bus that crashed Monday on the way to Wendell Middle School has been charged, according to officials.

According to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, Walter Holden of Spring Hope has been charged with reckless driving and failure to wear seat belt after a bus carrying six students overturned on Buffaloe Road.

A school bus sits in a ditch after the vehicle overturned.

No major injuries have been reported from the crash, which occurred around 7:45 a.m. near Stone Station Drive. School spokeswoman Lisa Luten said one student was picked up by his parent and the other five students were transported to WakeMed for precautionary measures. The bus driver was also transported to the hospital.

Officials say a car was driving into the middle lane and the school bus had to swerve to miss the car. Officials have not stated if the driver of the other car will be charged.

The school bus was traveling at the posted speed limit, 45 mph.

A tow truck has removed the bus from the scene. Buffaloe Road was closed in both directions during the clean-up.
