Schiff on Mueller: 'He is going to have to come in and testify' before Congress

"I think that is inevitably going to take place, Chris," Schiff told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "Cuomo Prime Time."

"He is going to have to come in and testify."

Schiff, a California Democrat, said the timing of a potential appearance by Mueller before Congress would likely depend on the timing of Attorney General William Barr providing the public with Mueller's report and its underlying evidence.

"But at the end of the day, yes, I think both the Congress and the American people are going to want to hear from Bob Mueller," Schiff said.

Schiff said he thought the situation was "headed there," but would leave the specifics up to congressional leadership.

Schiff's appearance on CNN came hours after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler spoke to Barr, and said after that the attorney general had not committed to the full release of the report. Nadler said Barr had committed to testifying before Congress and left open the possibility they could request Mueller's testimony as well.

"After we've seen the report, and after we've had Barr, then we'll make a judgment as to whether it is necessary and what the timing is on seeing Mueller," Nadler said.

Schiff said last month, ahead of the conclusion of the Mueller investigation, that Democrats would be willing to call in Mueller to testify and force the release of Mueller's report if the administration did not make it public.
