NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A youth baseball game in North Charleston, South Carolina came to a screeching halt on Tuesday night when gun shots were fired in a nearby parking lot.

Video from the scene shows the game going on as scheduled with a boy standing in the batters box waiting for the pitch when several shots are fired in succession.

Several players and coaches got down after realizing what was happening. Everyone eventually retreated to the dugout.

No one at the game was hurt.

"The people that were out here shooting at each other were not here to watch a ball game," said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. "They came into a secluded area to carry out a fight that started somewhere else and ended up shooting at each other. It destroyed the hearts of people. Mother, fathers, children out here participating in sports within our city. We will not tolerate this behavior and we will not allow this behavior to carry forward."

"When you see children diving on the ground out here playing baseball, it's not going to be tolerated."

"When I heard the 'boom boom boom' I thought it was fireworks," said Sylas Ferguson, who played in the game. "So I looked up and didn't see any fireworks and I heard my coach say 'get down, get down' and it was really scary."

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
