MIDDLESEX, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Public Safety asked the State Bureau of Investigation to examine a shooting involving a probation/parole officer Thursday night in Johnston County, officials said Friday morning.

The officer was conducting a home visit in Middlesex around 9 p.m. when the shooting occurred.

A person who was at the house was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said. The officer was not injured.

Johnston County Sheriff's Office deputies had been at 4615 Antioch Church Road for most of Thursday night. Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said the deputies were preserving the scene until SBI officials arrived. The home and yard had been tapped off.

The officer was placed on administrative duty. Both the SBI and DPS will conduct investigations, officials said.
