The State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into Rex Gore, the former district attorney for Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen counties, authorities said Tuesday.

<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — The State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into Rex Gore, the former district attorney for Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen counties, authorities said Tuesday.

A Superior Court judge last week requested a state investigation of Gore and former Assistant District Attorney Elaine Kelley, said Noelle Talley, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Justice.

No other details of the investigation were released.

Gore served as district attorney in the three southeastern North Carolina counties for 20 years before losing his bid for a sixth term last year.
