Sanford man drowns in Carolina Lakes

A 30-year-old Sanford man drowned after falling overboard while boating with a friend on on a lake in a gated community in southern Harnett County Friday night, according Sheriff Larry Rollins.

SPOUT SPRINGS, N.C. — A Sanford man drowned Friday evening while boating with a friend on a lake in a gated community in southern Harnett County, according Sheriff Larry Rollins.

Buck Reitkerk, 30, fell overboard shortly before midnight while boating near the Carolina Lakes subdivision marina off Buffalo Lake Road, Rollins said. His friend immediately called 911 and started searching for Reitkerk.

Rollins said that Spout Springs firefighters, Benhaven EMS, Harnett County Emergency Management and other agencies from Harnett and surrounding counties responded.

Crews searched through the night for Reitkerk. They located his body around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
