Durham, N.C. — Sandy Ridge Elementary in Durham was evacuated Thursday morning, according to Durham Public Schools.
Officials said the evacuation was a precaution due to a possible gas odor.
This is the second time in a week that Sandy Ridge Elementary has been impacted by the odor of gas.
According to officials, on Sunday, Jan. 26 the school shut off their boiler due to a gas odor.
After an investigation by the fire department, Dominion Energy, and DPS maintenance staff, Sandy Ridge Elementary was declared safe for re-entry. Students went back into class and resumed a regular school day.
