RALEIGH, N.C. — Sanderson High School Principal Cathy Moore has been selected as the Regional Principal of the Year by the state Department of Public Instruction, The Principals’ Executive Program and Wachovia Corp.

Moore, who was named Wake County Principal of the Year in October, has been in education for 20 years and has been principal of Sanderson High for seven years. She previously was an assistant principal at Enloe High School and Apex High School and was a foreign language teacher at Enloe High and taught at a high school in another North Carolina school district.

She is one of eight regional winners under consideration for the 2008 Wachovia Principal of the Year. Each of the eight receives $1,500 for his or her school and $1,500 for personal use.

The state winner will be announced in April.

Moore becomes the second Wake County educator to earn regional recognition. Wake County Teacher of the Year Paige Elliott was recently named the Regional Teacher of the Year and is competing for state Teacher of the Year honors.
