ROSEBORO, N.C. — A Sampson County teen was killed early Wednesday when he lost control of his car on a curve and struck a tractor-trailer on N.C. Highway 411 near Roseboro.

Jalen Mathis, of Ivanhoe, was thrown from the Ford Focus he was driving and pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say speed was a factor in the wreck.

After Mathis' car hit the truck, which was stopped at a stop sign preparing to cross N.C. 411, the tractor-trailer collided with a third vehicle, which was also crossing N.C. 411 in the opposite direction.

The drivers of the tractor-trailer and the third vehicle were not seriously hurt.

No charges are expected.
