Sampson County man sentenced for nightclub shooting

A Garland man will serve a minimum of seven years in prison for a 2008 shooting outside The Peter Rabbit Club in Sampson County.

ROSEBORO, N.C. — A Garland man will serve a minimum of seven years in prison for a 2008 shooting outside The Peter Rabbit Club in Sampson County.

Louis Franklin Highsmith Jr., of 625 Garland Airport Road, pleaded guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of Linwood Dion Rich, 26, of Salemburg.

Witnesses said the two men argued, then Highsmith pulled out a gun and shot Rich once.

Superior Court Judge Russell J. Lanier Jr. sentenced Highsmith Monday to 95 to 123 months in prison.
