RALEIGH, N.C.The Salvation Army of Wake County will start accepting applications from families this month who wish to participate in the Christmas Cheer program.

The Christmas Cheer, or Angel Tree, program helps financially-struggling families provide gifts for their children on Christmas morning through clothes, toys, shoes and more donated by the community.

Registration will take place Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Other registrations dates include Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 31 between 4 and 8 p.m.

Parents or legal guardians must register in person at 2727 Capital Blvd. in Raleigh. Applicants must bring:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of income for everyone in the household
  • One ID showing date or birth for each child being registered (birth certificate, vaccine record or school record)
  • Proof of current Wake County address if different from address on ID
  • Clothing and shoe sizes for each child

Organizers ask that children not attend the registration process. Children can not be registered for the Christmas Cheer program if they are already registered for Christmas assistance through another agency.

Last year, over 8,000 Wake County children were registered for the Christmas Cheer program.

Volunteers needed

Anyone interested in volunteering on the dates above to help register families should contact volunteer coordinators Sarah Leon at sarahleon@uss.salvationarmy.opg.

Bilingual skills and computer skills are beneficial but not necessary to volunteer.
