DURHAM, N.C. — Chef Ricky Moore announced Monday that the flagship location of his popular restaurant Saltbox Seafood Joint will close this weekend.

A James Beard semi-finalist for Best Chef in the Southeast, Moore opened Saltbox Seafood's first location at 608 N Mangum St. in 2012.

“This is where it all started, and that makes it bittersweet, but our lease has ended so we are retiring the original location,” Moore said.

Saltbox Seafood's second location at 2637 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd. remains open.

The Five Points location has closed but will reopen for one final service starting at noon on Sunday, Aug. 22, featuring Saltbox's famous shrimp burgers and hush puppies. The location will be open until food is sold out. There is a purchase limit of two per person.

“While I’m sad to say goodbye to this tiny little place that fulfilled so many dreams for me and my family, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in just 205 square feet,” Moore said via press release. “We are thankful to still be so rooted in the Durham community! It has been exciting to be part of Durham’s growth, and we will continue to be part of Durham’s future."
