Fort Bragg, N.C. — A sailor died Thursday from injuries suffered in a freefall during a training jump, Army officials said.
The sailor, who was not identified, was enrolled in the course at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center's Military Freefall School at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, officials said.
He injured his head while landing and was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
Army safety investigators have started an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
The school has suspended all air operations until further notice.
