Roxboro man treated for hypothermia, broken bones

Joseph Puryear, 41, lost control of his car on Old Roxboro Road in Granville County early Tuesday, Highway Patrol Trooper Brian Moseley said. The vehicle went down a ditch and landed in a creek.

OXFORD, N.C. — A Roxboro man was being treated for hypothermia and broken bones on Wednesday after being found in his car by a State Highway Patrol trooper.

Joseph Puryear, 41, lost control of his car on Old Roxboro Road in Granville County early Tuesday, Trooper Brian Moseley said. The vehicle went down a ditch and landed in a creek.

Puryear ended up crawling out into the bank of a creek. He spent 10 hours in the elements, which included freezing temperatures, until the trooper found him.

Puryear was being treated at Duke Hospital. No word was available on his condition.
