HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Jurors found a Durham County man guilty Friday afternoon of the 2007 murder of a romantic rival.

Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Randall Standifer, 53, of 7035 Kiger Road in Rougemont, on Christmas Day in 2007.

They found him in a wooded area outside 3303 New Sharon Church Road where he was holding Diana Seagroves Koutsis at gunpoint.

Deputies said Standifer came to the home, kicked open the door and shot and killed A. Jeffrey Lee Walton, 50, before forcing Koutsis to go with him. The pair had recently ended a relationship, deputies said.

Standifer was found guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery and breaking and entering. He was sentenced to life in prison.
