Roseboro teacher in need of school supplies receives gift from sorority sisters
A Sampson County high school teacher who couldn't afford to buy school supplies for her students this year received a gift from some of her sorority sisters across the nation.
Posted — UpdatedMichelle Lindsey, who teaches modern-day home economics at Lakewood High School in Roseboro, always does her best to help her students who need supplies.
"I have seen kids slump down, cringe and anxiety on their face because they know they can't get supplies," Lindsey said.
Lindsey typically pays for school supplies out of pocket for students who can't afford them on her own, but said getting supplies for students this year was challenging.
She reached out to members of her sorority for assistance.
Members of Delta Sigma Theta from all over the country responded with boxes of supplies filled with pencils, erasers, glue sticks and notebooks over the past couple of days, just in time for school to start.
Lindsey said she's had to update her wish list on Amazon five times to keep up with the demand from her sorority sisters who want to send her more supplies.
The first day of school for Lakewood High is Aug. 26.
