ROLESVILLE, N.C. — Rolesville High School was placed under a Code Red lockdown on Wednesday after a student brought a loaded firearm to campus.

A letter from school administrators said a staff member noticed a student outside of class and found the student to be carrying a loaded gun. The gun was confiscated.

The school entered a lockdown to ensure the safety for students and staff. Classes dismissed at 1:15 p.m. because of an ongoing investigation. All after-school activities were canceled.

It came on a day in which there were numerous incidents across Wake County schools. Threats made toward Zebulon Middle School and and Cardinal Charter School in Wendell where a student brought a toy gun to school.

On Wednesday morning, a message posted to the school's website confirmed the lockdown and added that all students are safe and no one was allowed to enter or leave on-campus buildings as of 11:14 a.m.

"Our school is under Code Red lockdown due to a security concern," read the message. "No one is allowed to enter or exit the building under a Code Red. All students are safe. Please do not come to campus. We will send updates to all parents via text and email and post additional information here as soon as possible."

This incident is being investigated by Rolesville police along with Wake County Public School System. State law calls for an automatic 365-day suspension of any student in possession of a firearm on school property.

Schools adding more security for Friday basketball games

Rolesville Police confirmed there will be additional staff at Rolesville High School's basketball game against Knightdale High School Friday.

Rolesville Chief of Police David Simmons said administration at Rolesville High also implemented additional security measures. The nature of the additional security measures by administration is currently unknown.

There will be extra security at Broughton's basketball game Friday as well.

According to Raleigh Police Department Lieutenant Jason Borneo, Raleigh PD would have extra patrols in the area during the game.

The news of increased security comes after multiple schools in Wake County were put into lockdown Friday after reports of threats on social media Friday.

Zebulon Middle School was sent into code red lockdown around 8:30 a.m. Friday, while East Millbrook Magnet Middle School was placed in a lockdown an hour later.

In total, six schools were sent into either a code-red or code-yellow lockdown Friday.

All five schools were lifted or shifted lockdown statuses by 11:30 a.m., with Zebulon Middle and East Millbrook Magnet dismissing early.
