Rocky Mount police shoot domestic violence suspect after he pointed gun at officers

Ariel Natanzon, age 45, reportedly pointed his gun at officers after being asked multiple times to put it down.

Police were called to the area on a report of a domestic disturbance just after 7:30 a.m. They found a female victim suffering from a cut and puncture wounds. She was taken to Nash UNC Health Care while officers searched for her attacker.

When an officer located the man, he showed a gun, and the officer asked him repeatedly to drop it, police said.

When the man pointed his gun at the officer, the officer shot him in the stomach, police said.

The encounter was captured on the officer's body camera, and that video will be used in an internal investigation. The State Bureau of Investigation will also review the shooting, standard procedure when a law enforcement officer fires a weapon.

The man was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he was listed in stable condition.

Police did not release the names of the man or woman involved in the encounter.
