Rocky Mount police looking for man linked to one of multiple shootings overnight

Rocky Mount officers are looking for a man linked to a Saturday night shooting that was one of several to occur within the span of a few hours.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount officers are looking for a man linked to a Saturday night shooting that was one of several to occur within the span of a few hours. Five people were shot in total.

At 11:47 p.m., officers responded to UNC Health Nash Hospital in reference to person who had been shot in the leg. Officers found that Daquan Newell, 25, was shot during a party at Creek Ridge Crossing apartments on Sunset Avenue.

It was determined that Tyrone Conyers was responsible for the shooting. Warrants were obtained for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by felon. Police are looking for Conyers, 29, and consider him armed and dangerous.

At 12:42 a.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Eagles Terrace in reference to a separate shooting. The shooting was determined to be accidental. A 19-year-old was treated and released at UNC Health Nash Hospital.

Around 2:30 on Sunday morning, Rocky Mount Police Department officers working in the area of Northeast Main Street heard shots fired. Police said a large fight took place in the 100 block of Northeast Main Street and shots were fired as nightclubs were letting out. Officers initially located three people that were hit by gunfire.

The victims in that shooting were identified as Amiya Taylor, 19, Dynasty Brown, 41, and Isiah Purvis, 29. The three were taken to UNC Health Nash Hospital. Taylor and Purvis were listed as stable. Brown was transferred to ECU Medical Center and was in serious condition as of Sunday afternoon.

While that shooting was under investigation, a vehicle occupied by three women arrived at the police department to report their vehicle was struck by gunfire in the same parking lot. None of the women were injured.
