ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police talked to a second suspect Sunday about her involvement in the Jan. 3 armed robbery at the Motel 6, at 1370 N. Wesleyan Blvd., but did not charge her with a crime.

Authorities said a motel guest there was robbed at gunpoint by two people. When police responded, Johvoun Harvey was holding a gun outside the motel, and an officer shot and killed him, police spokeswoman Laura Fahnestock said.

The second suspect, Rashaunda Jones, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, is known to have been dating Harvey, police said. Investigators have said that she has not been charged with a crime.

Officer Kyle Mistretta, 31, was assigned to administrative duty while the State Bureau of Investigation determines whether Harvey fired at him, the standard procedure when a North Carolina law enforcement officer fires a weapon.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 919-972-1411.
