— Police have charged two men in a fatal shooting outside a gas station early Wednesday.

Derek Antron Morris was shot while he was inside a vehicle at the EP Mart #2, 1211 N. Raleigh St., around 3:05 a.m., police said.

Morris was transported to Nash General Hospital and then moved to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Xavious R. Thomas, 19, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as possession of a stolen firearm.

Leslie J. Perry, 27, faces charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aiding and abetting a felony.

Police arrested both men within 16 hours of the shooting. Officers said that the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Capt. Martin McCoy at 252-972-1485.

Perry was on probation after a November 2007 conviction for drug possession, according to the state Department of Correction records.

He has served about six months in prison for two separate violations of his probation from earlier convictions for drug possession with intent to sell and for carrying a concealed weapon.
