Rocky Mount man charged in hot-grease attack

A Rocky Mount man faces accusations that he threw grease on a man and two women Tuesday evening, police said.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man faces accusations that he threw grease on a man and two women Tuesday evening, police said.

Investigators said that Okeefe Dekoda Bunn, 34, threw hot grease into the face of Rakem Kato, 25, in a home at 710 Hammond St. around 8:30 p.m. Grease also landed on Sharon Warren, 38, and Arielle Warren, 20.

Kato was flown to the North Carolina Jaycees Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Police said he was in critical but stable condition.

The women were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.

Bunn drove away in a white Buick but was arrested Wednesday morning, police said.

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Information on his bond wasn't available yet.
