The Biden administration has told key lawmakers it is sending a new package of more than $1 billion in arms and ammunition to Israel, three congressional aides said Tuesday. It's the first arms shipment to Israel to be announced by the administration since it put another arms transfer — consisting of 3,500 bombs — on hold earlier in the month. The administration has said it paused that earlier transfer to keep Israel from using the bombs in its growing offensive in the crowded southern Gaza city of Rafah.

Advocates for Umstead State Park in Raleigh say they've discovered a surveying error in 1976 that wrongly included 14 acres of park land with an adjacent property purchased by the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. They say a new state survey is needed before Wake Stone builds a new quarry on that site.

Utah firefighters rescued a hiker who fell more than 100 feet into a quarry.

before the sun came up was out here about four o'clock on the shoreline, trails below the state capital. Somewhere along that hike, just kind of misstep, got too close to the edge and took kind of a slide and tumble about halfway down the cliff face into this rock quarry, Ah, hiker fell more than 100 ft in dangerous terrain. Stopping his fall was a small ledge where he was hurt and trapped. Saw that he was precariously perched on that ledge. And so we activated our heavy rescue team. The 29 year old hiker lost his cell phone in the fall. It was a group of people in a homeless encampment nearby who heard him yelling for help. Around 9 30 this morning, they called 911 and heavy rescue team got to work, were able to find a good solid tree and some rocks tow hook up to and then lowered rescuers down to him. These paramedics and firefighters carefully navigated the towering rocks, lowering the man to safety had some extremities. Injuries, uh, to his legs and his pelvis wasn't able to move on his own. The hiker was conscious during the rescue he started the hike with a flashlight and cellphone responders remind those venturing out toe also bring warm clothes. Also let somebody know where you're going. The man was transported to the hospital. Training paid off.
