Robeson man charged in fatal shooting of 67-year-old wife

A Robeson County man is charged in the fatal shooting of his wife.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — A Robeson County man is charged in the fatal shooting of his wife.

According to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, neighbors of Lynda and David Austin, 67 and 65, called 911 to request a welfare check on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

When deputies and firefighters arrived at the home on Carthage Road, they found Lynda Austin dead inside. Her husband, also inside the home, was transported to Southeastern Medical Center.

On Aug. 10, one week later, David Austin was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Robeson County Detention Center with no bond.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Lynda Austin died from a gunshot wound.
