SAINT PAULS, N.C. — Saint Pauls police said Friday that they are treating the death of a 17-month-old boy as suspicious.

A man called 911 from the Fox Ridge apartments, on South McGoogan Street, around noon Monday, police said. Paramedics called police from the scene and transported Nathaniel Bruce Reid to Southeastern Regional Medical Center. The boy died at the hospital.

Police did not release details of the boy's death, but said they suspect abuse or neglect could be involved.

The Office of the State Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the boy's death.
