FAIRMONT, N.C. — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation following an incident on Happy Hill Road near Fairmont.

Maj. Anthony Thompson confirmed early Tuesday that Patricia Dawn Hill died, but authorities have not said whether her death is connected to a reported chemical incident that occurred inside the residence.

Assistant Fire Chief for Fayetteville, Richard Bradshaw, said a 10-man hazmat team was dispatched to the building where the chemical situation occurred.

The road at the intersection of Turkey Branch Road and Happy Hill Road has been closed all day, which affected several students returning home from school. School busses were not allowed to go down the roads, and parents had to pick children up at the intersection.

Thompson said Tuesday that Hill was the owner and operator or a beauty shop behind her home. Several neighbors told WRAL News that they believed Hill was the victim.

"She's been down there a good while," said resident, Michael Leonard. "She's a nice lady, I don't know why nobody would even bother her."
