LUMBERTON, N.C. — Lumberton police said a man drove himself to the hospital after he was shot Wednesday morning. Police are now looking for a suspect, who has been identified.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the area of MLK Drive and Page Street at around 11:43 a.m. They found a home on Page Street and one on Spearman Street that had been hit with bullets but no injuries. Police were later alerted to a man who had driven himself to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Police identified the man as Keon Alston, 27, of Pleasant Hope Road in Fairmont. They said Alston was sitting in his car in the yard at 123 Page Street in Lumberton when he was shot several times. His wounds do not appear to be life-threatening, officials said.

After an investigation, it was determined the shooter was Nicoles Leggett, 42, of South Manila Street in Fairmont. Warrants are out for Leggett’s arrest for attempted first degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Det. Yvette Pitts with the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845.
