Robber leaves in taxi after holding up downtown Raleigh bank

A man walked into the Mechanics & Farmers Bank branch at 13 E. Hargett St. in Raleigh at about 11 a.m. Monday and passed a note to a teller demanding money, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police were searching Monday for a man who robbed a bank in downtown Raleigh.

The man walked into the Mechanics & Farmers Bank branch at 13 E. Hargett St. at about 11 a.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding money, police said.

The robber left the bank in a taxi, telling the driver to let him out in the vicinity of the State Capitol, police said.

The robber was described as a black man who stands about 6 feet 1 inch tall. He was wearing the coveralls, a cap, work gloves and sunglasses.
