Tina Lorraine Hilliard, 38, was arrested after a traffic stop Wednesday, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Police found she had a suspended license and outstanding warrants and transported her to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Further investigation showed Hilliard allegedly broke into a victim’s residence through a back door and stole money and a shotgun, police said. The victim was familiar with Hilliard. The shotgun was recovered and turned back over to the victim. Hilliard was charged with larceny of a firearm and injury to real property.
Police said Hilliard also faces charges of felony financial card theft and obtaining property by false pretenses in a July 17, 2008 incident in Roanoke Rapids. Police said Hilliard took a man’s wallet while visiting his home on Buttercup Lane. The wallet contained a bankcard that was used to purchase gasoline from a nearby gas station.
Hilliard is being held on a $22,000 bond at the Halifax County jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19.
