Roanoke Rapids man dies in wreck
A Roanoke Rapids man died in a single-vehicle wreck two miles west of the city Thursday night, state troopers said.
Posted — UpdatedROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids man died in a single-vehicle wreck two miles west of the city Thursday night, state troopers said.
Troopers said Cody M. Gainey, 18, was going east on Thelma Road around 9:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road and struck a ditch. His vehicle overturned.
Gainey was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, but died of his injuries, troopers said.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the wreck.
