ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Authorities charged a 19-year-old man Monday with kidnapping and trying to kill a woman over the weekend.

Tishawn Edwards, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was being held in the Halifax County Jail without bond.

A woman told authorities she was assaulted throughout the weekend, suffering a broken collarbone when she was thrown against the steps in her Bolling Road home. Her neck was cut, and her assailant tried to push her out of a moving car on N.C. Highway 48, authorities said.

The woman was able to escape on Sunday, authorities said.
