ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Police in Roanoke Rapids arrested a man Tuesday who was wanted in connection with a weekend shooting at a local shopping center.

Jacobi G. Harvey, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, surrendered on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in connection with the alleged crime, which happened around 5 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hills Shopping Center on East 10th Street.

Police offered no motive for the crime but said a witness reported that, prior to the shooting, the victim and the man who shot him had been arguing inside a store and then walked outside.

Investigators did not release any information about the victim.

Harvey, who was jailed under a $10,000 bond, also faces charges of discharging a weapon in the city limits and going armed to the terror of the people.

It's unclear if the shooting had anything to do with a four-car wreck minutes later near the shopping center in which one person was killed and another injured.

Police have not released any details about that case other than to say that they are still investigating.
