Roanoke Rapids man airlifted from Linville Falls
A Roanoke Rapids man had to be airlifted from a rugged, mountainous area in the Pisgah National Forest when he suffered a back injury Friday morning, according to Burke County Emergency Services.
Posted — UpdatedAuthorities said the 35-year-old man and two friends were fishing in a river in Linville Gorge when he suffered a back injury. The injury happened off Cabin Trail, off Old N.C. Highway 104, between Linville Falls and Lake James.
His friends reported the victim's injuries, but it took emergency personnel two hours to hike there, dispatchers said. They called in a National Guard helicopter, which flew the man to Foothills Regional Hospital.
A medical helicopter then flew the man to a hospital in Charlotte.
The man's name has not been released. An update on his condition was not available Sunday.
