Roanoke Rapids closes City Hall, suspends services while disinfecting

The City of Roanoke Rapids announced Thursday that beginning at 5 p.m. they were temporarily closing City Hall to the public. On Friday, they would sanitize and disinfect the entire premise.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — The City of Roanoke Rapids announced Thursday that beginning at 5 p.m. they were temporarily closing City Hall to the public.

For the safety of the community and employees, officials said departments housed within the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall would suspend services for sanitation and disinfection of the entire premises.

The City of Roanoke Rapids will continue to maintain city services to the greatest extent possible while limiting the impact of the COVID-19 virus in the community," said officials in a release.

Officials said they would continue offering services by appointment only.

"A collection drop box is available in the foyer of City Hall for deliveries, permit applications and payments by check only," said officials in a release.

Some services can be accessed online, such as downloading permit applications for building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical. employment applications and department information are also available online.

Members of the public are asked to conduct business with the City of Roanoke Rapids by phone at 252-533-2800 or online at roanokerapidsnc.com.

The Magistrate's office will remain open for business with public access, according to the release.
