HENDERSON, N.C. — Drivers in Henderson should get ready for a three-week bridge closure, starting Monday.

The Parham Road bridge over Interstate 85 is getting a concrete latex overlay, which will extend the bridge's lifespan, according to a NCDOT press release. When the bridge reopens next month, you should also have a smoother ride.

The ramps to and from I-85 will remain open, but through traffic on Parham Road will follow a signed detour. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted to 85 South and onto the N.C. 39 exit, where it will double back onto 85 North and the Parham Road exit. Westbound Parham Road traffic will head north on I-85 to Satterwhite Road, where it will head back on I-85 South to Parham Road.

Based on my calculations, allow 4 or 5 extra minutes to account for the detour.

Sanford Driver License office closed for renovation

The NCDOT is giving its driver license office in Sanford a makeover for the next few days.

The office, on Carthage Street, will be closed today through Monday, April 29. It is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, April 30, at 8 a.m., according to NCDOT.

A DMV mobile unit will provide driver license and REAL ID service in the parking lot Friday and Monday.
