Road rage leads to shooting of two Mount Airy children

A "road rage" incident led to the shooting, officials said.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Two young Mount Airy children are recovering after being shot, WXII reported.

Surry County Sheriff's Office said two siblings, a boy, 9, and a girl, 7, were taken to the hospital Saturday by their father. The boy was later discharged and the girl underwent surgery and was reported in stable condition.

Byron Donnell Green, 41, of Mount Airy, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into occupied property causing serious bodily injury and assault by pointing a gun.

A "road rage" incident led to the shooting, officials said. Green was being held on a $600,000 bond.
